The Historical Tour 2025

In anticipation of their debut tour across Ireland, BIIRD invites us to rethink who can perform trad—tearing it up, reshaping it, and making it new.

In this spirit of reinvention, I turned to the traditional woven belts of the Aran Islands for inspiration ~ the crios. Using a color palette selected by BIIRD’s stylist Ríon Hannora, I designed a series crios based off of traditional woven patterns paired with contemporary reds & pinks.

Crios

Outlawed under English Penal Law, this woven belt survived in remote corners of Ireland, later becoming synonymous with the Aran Islands.

With the crios as a jumping off point as a woven motif, I designed & wove a series of crios, then cut them up, re-wove & remade them into new garments.
